Pacific Rim: Uprising is a 2018 science fiction action film, directed by Steven S. DeKnight and written by DeKnight, Emily Carmichael, Kira Snyder, and T.S. Nowlin. It is the sequel to the 2013 film Pacific Rim, and the second film in the Pacific Rim franchise. The film stars John Boyega, Scott Eastwood, Cailee Spaeny, Jing Tian, and Charlie Day, and follows the son of Stacker Pentecost, Jake, as he leads a new generation of Jaeger pilots against a new threat of Kaiju.
The film was released on March 23, 2018, by Universal Pictures, and received mixed reviews from critics. It grossed $290 million worldwide against a budget of $150 million. A third film and an anime series are in development.

Plot summary
It is 2035, ten years after the Battle of the Breach, in which the inter-dimensional portal created by the Precursors (through which they sent marauding Kaiju) was closed. Former Jaeger pilot Jake Pentecost - son of Battle of the Breach hero Stacker Pentecost - makes a living by stealing and selling Jaeger parts on the black market in the Los Angeles area. After he tracks part of a disabled Jaeger's power core to the secret workshop of fifteen-year-old Jaeger enthusiast Amara Namani, both are arrested by the Pan-Pacific Defense Corps (PPDC) after an altercation between Amara's small, single-pilot Jaeger Scrapper and the Jaeger November Ajax. A holographic transmission of Jake's adoptive sister and PPDC Secretary General Mako Mori persuades him to return to PPDC as an instructor, with Amara as his recruit.
Upon arriving at a Shatterdome in China, Jake starts training Jaeger program cadets with his estranged former co-pilot Nate Lambert. Nate and Mako reveal to him that the Jaeger program is threatened by Shao Corporation's drone program, which offers to mass-produce remote-controlled Jaegers developed by Liwen Shao and Dr. Newton Geiszler. Mako is due to deliver a final assessment to determine the authorization of the drones at a PPDC council meeting in Sydney but is killed by rogue Jaeger Obsidian Fury before she can report. Her death prompts the PPDC council to authorize the drone program and order their immediate deployment. In her last moments, Mako reveals the location of a defunct Jaeger production facility in Siberia to Jake.
Jake and Nate travel to Siberia to investigate the facility, where they find Obsidian Fury and engage in a fierce battle with it. Upon destroying its reactor, they find that it is controlled by a Kaiju's secondary brain, which testing shows was grown on Earth. When Shao's drones reach their respective locations, they are taken over by cloned Kaiju brains and simultaneously attack Shatterdomes worldwide, inflicting heavy casualties on the PPDC forces and incapacitating almost all Jaegers. Hermann Gottlieb seeks out Geiszler for help, only to discover that Geiszler is behind the attack. Geiszler reveals that he has been mind-melding with Kaiju brains since the last attack and has become corrupted by them.
Geiszler intends to use his connection to activate a ring of underwater volcanoes called the Ring of Fire with his drones' Kaiju brains as bombs, opening a new portal for Precursors' invasion force in Mount Fuji as it contains high amounts of rare earth elements that are vital for their plans. The cadets are mobilized while Gottlieb and Shao repair the PPDC's four remaining Jaegers; Gottlieb invents Kaiju-blood-powered rockets, which launch the team to Tokyo. Although Shao is able to destroy some drones by triggering their self-destruct protocols using her override device given by Geiszler before his betrayal, Geiszler merges three remaining Kaiju into one colossal hybrid named Mega-Kaiju that quickly overpowers Gipsy Avenger.
Scrapper arrives piloted by Amara who manages to get Gipsy back on its feet; Jake and Nate then use Gipsy's nuclear reactor core as a bomb by throwing it into Mega-Kaiju's mouth with Scrapper's help while Gottlieb's rockets launch them out into safety; killing Mega-Kaiju while Geiszler is arrested by Nate. During the aftermath, Jake becomes the new leader of the PPDC and promises to rebuild the Jaeger program stronger than ever, while the cadets are initiated as full-fledged pilots. In a mid-credits scene, Geiszler threatens that his masters will attack the world over and over again, to which Jake replies that next time, humanity will be the ones attacking the Precursors.
